New Holland 96c 98c 996 Series Corn Heads

The Calmer upgrade kit solves many of the
mechanical problems with New Holland corn heads.
These performance parts will enable your factory corn head
to perform better than new at a fraction of the cost
of a new or chopping corn head.
100% satisfaction guaranteed!

BT Chopper Stalk Rolls

Through the integration of multi-length blades,
Calmer Stalk Rolls have a patented “open window”
feeding chamber to guarantee the efficient
traveling of cornstalks into the row unit to
become processed into “confetti-like” pieces
by 20 razor-sharp blades.

Multi-Zone Beveled Stripper Plates

calmer patented stripper plates have a wider
front opening to help prevent the bulldozing
of cornstalks when slightly off the row. The
beveled stripping area mimics the bottom
portion of the corn ear to help reduce
butt shelling problems and trash intake.

Slow Down Kit

calmer’s patented “slow down” kit includes
a new drive and idler sprocket combination,
which slows down just the gathering chains by 12.5%.
This reduces trash intake, decreases kernel loss
and increases the longevity of the sprockets and chains.

follow our recommended steps for maximum performance

Step 1

Reliable stalk rolls are critical to a top-performing corn head. That's why Calmer invented the World's Only All-Weather Stalk Roll™ known as the BT Chopper®, which is the only roll in the industry with a patented “open window” feeding chamber for the superior feeding and processing of stalks in all crop conditions.

The 10 razor-sharp knives on each BT Chopper® Stalk Roll cut, chop and shear cornstalks into confetti-like pieces for accelerated decomposition. As a result, you will be able to reduce a management pass across the field, improve your planting experience and increase yields. Calmer Grass Knives match the curvature of the  BT Chopper's® redesigned nose to  prevent the back wrapping of grasses.

“I farm with my brother-in-law. While I was installing the BT Chopper Rolls he would walk by and say ‘That’s a lot of money, they had better work.’ After fall harvest and tillage, I asked him what he thought. He said ‘That was the best money I’d ever spent.’ In all the years he has done fall tillage it was the first year he did NOT plug-up once.”

Reduce Butt Shelling and

Decrease  “Trash” Into Combine

Calmer’s Patented Multi-Zone Beveled Stripper Plates for New Holland corn heads have a wider front opening that reduces the bulldozing of cornstalks when not fully aligned with the row. This wider retrieving area is manufactured flat in the front to reduce ear wedging problems and beveled in the back to allow the stalk rolls to engage the ear shanks, leaves and husks to reduce trash intake into the combine. The patented beveled edge emulates the rounded bottom of the corn ear to mitigate kernel loss by displacing the energy around the base of the corn ear.

Slow Down Kit Chains and Sprockets

“The best money I ever spent on aftermarket upgrades to a machine! I am able to downsize residue without buying a chopping corn head and leave the field with a more uniform residue distribution. Of the heads I saw demonstrated at the 2015 Farm Progress Show, the Calmer head was by far the best!”

7-Tooth Drive Sprockets slow down gathering chains by 12.5% to reduce trash intake and kernel loss caused by fast chain speeds. Calmer’s larger 9-Tooth Idler Sprockets improve the chains’ grabbing and conveying ability and allow for a standard-size gathering chain to be used. This new-and-improved non-greaseable idler sprocket is solid-steel and has a replaceable bearing for low maintenance and long life. Longer-lasting Chrome-Pin Gathering Chains are sent with all Slow Down Kits.

Upgerade kit Economics

Listen to George as he explains his thought process behind the economics of updating an older corn head with Calmer parts. According to him, his cost of ownership for rebuilding his corn head with Calmer Stalk Rolls and Residue Management Parts at only a $1 per acre!

 No Feeding Chamber

Stalk rolls cannot perform as needed if the stalks can not enter the corn head. The stalk rolls on factory New Holland corn heads have flutes that are all the same length, which prevents the entry of cornstalks.

This faulty design results in premature wear in the first few inches of the stalk roll since stalks cannot travel further up the row unit to become processed at the corn head.

CASE IH stalk roll design problems

Cornstalks fail to travel into the corn head to become processed due to the flawed New Holland design.

Patented “Open window” Feeding Chamber

The utilization of stair-stepped, multi-length blades enables cornstalks to easily enter Calmer Stalk Rolls to become chopped into small pieces.

This perfected design performs in all crop conditions, guarantees the traction of stalks for processing, results in longer stalk roll life, reduces low ear snap, and prevents the bulldozing of stalks at the end of the rows.

Cornstalks can easily travel into the row unit through Calmer’s patented feeding chamber.

 Limited Residue-to-Soil Contact

The stalk rolls on factory New Holland corn heads have non-aggressive flutes that do not break open the rind or expose the inner pith of the cornstalk.

Failing to properly process cornstalks prevents residue-to-soil contact, leading to the immobilization of important nutrients on the soil surface, slower degradation rates and leaves a wet mattress of residue in the spring.

Cornstalks failed to enter the knife chamber, resulting in little residue-to-soil contact and slow decomposition rates.

10 intermeshing Razor-sharp blades

 Superior Residue-to-Soil-Contact

After the cornstalk easily enters Calmer’s patented feeding chamber, it efficiently travels back into the knife chamber where 20 intermeshing, razor-sharp blades cut, chop, and shear it into confetti-like pieces.

This process exposes the pith of the stalk and places the residue strategically over the row for superior residue-to-soil contact, faster decomposition, easier planting and higher yields!

Cornstalks are easily engaged and processed for superior residue-to-soil contact and rapid decomposition..

fully-beveled STRIPPER PLATES

Standard New Holland stripper plates have a full bevel from the front retrieving area to the back of the stripper plate.

This flawed design contributes to the lodging of ears in the front since the gathering chain lug can not get close enough to eject the ear. This can occur frequently in down corn and adverse crop conditions.

Factory New Holland stripper plates have a full bevel from front to back that contributes to ears lodging in the plates.

Patented Multi-Zone Beveled Stripper Plates

Calmer’s Patented Multi-Zone Beveled Stripper Plates are flat in the front retrieving area to reduce the ear wedging problem caused by factory New Holland plates.

The back beveled portion of the plate better mimics the rounded butt of the corn ear. This design reduces kernel loss and trash intake into the combine.

Calmer Multi-Zone Beveled Stripper Plates are flat in the front to reduce ear lodging problems.

Excessive Gathering Chain Speed

Factory New Holland 96C, 98C and 996 corn heads utilize gathering chain speeds that are too fast.

These fast gathering chain speeds often cause the gathering chain lug to make contact with the top of the plant before the stalk rolls can pull it below the stripper plates. This often results in increased trash intake or the breaking of stalks in drier crop conditions.

patented slow down kit

Calmer sends a 7-Tooth Drive Sprocket to slow down just the gathering chains by 12.5%. This allows the stalk rolls to make additional revolutions to fully process the cornstalk at the corn head before the gathering chain lug can break it off and send additional trash into the combine.

Calmer also sends a larger 9-Tooth Idler Sprocket which has a solid-steel design with a replaceable bearing to reduce wear on the idler block and increase the gathering chain lug’s grabbing ability in down corn.
